TWO RIVERS, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A man was arrested Sunday for his fourth OWI offense after he and a passenger were found in a vehicle on its roof in a snowbank.
According to the Two Rivers Police Department, officers were called to the 4200 block of Memorial Drive around 4:20 p.m. for a report of a vehicle in a snowbank on its roof. A male and female were found inside the vehicle.
Officers removed the uninjured female passenger, while responders with the Two Rivers Fire Department extracted the male driver, who “suffered possible injuries from the crash.”
Jeffrey Leifer, 69, of Manitowoc, was arrested for OWI, fourth offense. He was transported to Aurora Medical Center to receive medical care before being taken to the Manitowoc County Jail.
Officials say southbound Memorial Drive was closed for approximately 1.5 hours while the crash was investigated and the vehicle was removed.
In times of inclement weather, officials say to exercise extreme caution while driving and reduce speed while on snow-covered and icy roads. If you have been consuming intoxicants, please use resources such as SafeRide, local Taxi services, or contact a sober party to make sure all drivers on the roads are safe and able to get home.
An investigation is ongoing.
