DE PERE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The Whitewater Police Chief is asking President Biden for help in dealing with the influx of migrants in his community. The request comes as the senate inches closer to a border deal that would also send money to Ukraine.
“It is a total total chaotic disaster at the southern border right now,” Congressman Mike Gallagher isn’t mincing words when talking about the situation at the southern border.
He added, “If you have an open borders policy, unless you change that policy, the border crisis will get worse.”
While the Congressman says targeted aid to Ukraine, which is tied to the border deal, would be an investment in our own defense industrial base – he’s against sending more money to the southern border, that would be used to process more people and allow them to come into the country.
Even in Wisconsin, where Canada and not Mexico is our closest border, the congressman says we are feeling the impact of the lack of border security – something that should be a concern to all.
“As someone who chairs the select committee on China, I fear this is a huge gap in our entire homeland security effort because it would just take one of America’s enemies to exploit our open border, the porousness of our southern border to do something very destructive here domestically so I hope that the President would be willing to actually make those policy changes and if those of sufficient policy changes I think you could see a deal emerge,” said Gallagher.
And while he doesn’t speak for the Republican party as a whole, Gallagher believes the next few weeks are critical to its future, as the Iowa caucuses kickoff the Presidential primary season.
Whether the nominee ends up being former president Donald Trump or someone else, Gallagher along with other political figures, like former Attorney General Bill Barr, said the decision by Colorado and Maine to remove Trump’s name from the ballot is a political charade, based off a bogus legal argument —
Adding the move is only making Trump stronger.
Gallaher added, “Let’s just let the voters decide who the nominees and who the next president is going to be and not have all of these weird interventions in the process. It only creates more chaos and the last thing our political process needs is more chaos this time around.”
