(WTAQ-WLUK) — An Appleton West High School student is being recognized for his creative app.
Rep. Mike Gallagher announced high school senior, Owen Hall, the winner of the 2023 Congressional App Challenge in Wisconsin’s Eighth District.
Hall created the app, OnTask, an all-in-one planning app that helps students stay organized and productive. Through the app, users have access to a to-do list, calendar, and school planner where they are able to color coordinate and add tasks and assignments to each class.
“I’m proud to announce Owen Hall as the winner of this year’s Congressional App Challenge in Wisconsin’s Eighth District,” said Rep. Gallagher. “We all know how difficult it can be to stay organized, and Owen’s app tackles this problem head-on by giving people an easy-to-use app that provides them with all the features they need to stay focused and on task. The app is all the more impressive considering Owen took the initiative to teach himself how to code on top of an incredibly busy school schedule. His hard work and creativity in this challenge is a reminder of how many talented students there are in Northeast Wisconsin and I’m looking forward to seeing what he does next.”
Hall said he created the app to solve a problem that he struggles with daily.
He says his to-do list, events list and his school assignments are all stored on separate apps. What the OnTask app does is provides a space where all this information can be stored in one place.
“I often have conflicts due to putting an event/assignment in one area but not another, or from forgetting to check everything. I know many other students struggle with this same problem, so I designed OnTask to solve this issue. I also used this app as a chance to learn web and app development skills while creating a useful product,” wrote Owen Hall.
Hall has applied to several top universities across the country and is interested in majoring in either Electrical Engineering or Computer Science.
