GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A registered sex offender has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for distributing images and videos depicting the sexual abuse of children.
Prosecutors say in May 2022, Facebook tipped off investigators that a user was sending inappropriate content over Facebook. Appleton police investigated and identified Shaun Meyer as the culprit.
This past March, police searched Meyer’s home. A search of his electronic devices and Facebook account, finding that in May 2022, he distributed 142 images in a group that contained more than 200 members. Prosecutors say more photos and videos were found on his phone and computer, including videos of children as young as 6 being sexually assaulted.
During an interview, Meyer admitted receiving and distributing child sexual abuse material on Facebook. He also told investigators he spent about four hours a day looking at pornography.
According to the Wisconsin sex offender registry, Meyer was convicted in 2004 of child sexploitation.
