MENASHA, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Community members are invited to participate in the City of Menasha Police Department’s contest by designing a new graphic for their squad cars.
Anyone who lives or works in Menasha, as well as students in the Menasha Joint School District, are encouraged to submit designs. The patrol vehicles will be black Ford Explorers.
Along with the design itself, applicants should include a brief description of the design and explain how it represents both Menasha and the police department’s values. Names and contact information should also be included with the submission.
Whoever creates the winning design will be recognized publicly when the new patrol vehicles are unveiled. Designs should be submitted by Dec. 13 to Lieutenant Joel Nelson or Lieutenant Matthew Albrecht at jnelson@menashawi.gov or malbrecht@menashawi.gov, or sent to 430 First Street – Menasha, WI, 54952.
Guidelines that will be applied when the police department considers submitted designs are as follows:
- The design should tie the police patrol vehicle to important aspects or history of the community/region.
- The police patrol vehicle should have both the symbol of authority and the wording of the authority spelled out, i.e., a replica of the agency’s badge or shoulder patch and the word POLICE.
- The agency authority, i.e., “POLICE” should be the largest and the clearest of the lettering. The jurisdiction, i.e., “MENASHA,” while not necessarily as prominent, must be clear and legible.
- The markings of “911”, “EMERGENCY 911”, or statement of service, to the community may be placed on the front or rear fenders, however, should be less prominent from the authority lettering and must not be visually distracting.
- The vehicle number should be visible from both the side and rear view of the police patrol vehicle.
- The police department’s website address MenashaPolice.org should be visible from the rear of the vehicle.
- The department’s L.E.E.D principle (listen, explain, equity, dignity) and/or values (innovative, efficient, respect, integrity, teamwork) should be included in the design to some degree.
The selected design will be chosen by members of the Menasha Police Department at an unspecified date. The department reserves the right to make modifications to the winning graphic.
