ASHWAUBENON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A regionally-focused video game publisher based in Green Bay has taken residency at TitletownTech.
Founded earlier this year by Wisconsin native and UW-Green Bay alum Ben Kvalo, Midwest Games aims to empower game developers in the region and amplify the Midwest’s presence in the video game industry.
Venture capital firm TitletownTech — formed in 2019 in a partnership between the Green Bay Packers and Microsoft — announced Monday it led Midwest Games’ $3 million funding round.
Other investments came from include Tundra Angels, Brightstar Wisconsin, Wisconsin Investment Partners, video game industry veteran Erin Ashley Simon and BayTek Entertainment owner and CEO Larry Treankler, whose company owns the rights to Skee-Ball.
We’re thrilled to invest in Midwest Games and believe in the substantial value it brings to the games industry, the Midwest region, and our in-residence community. We recognize the transformative potential of Ben’s vision and wholeheartedly support its positive impact on the games ecosystem and beyond,” TitletownTech Partner Cordero Barkley said in a news release.
Midwest Games plans to use the funds to expand its staff, support independent developers, and publish games.
The company’s first game, RA RA BOOM — created by Cincinatti-based Gylee Games — is expected launch soon.
Kvalo previously worked with 2K, Blizzard Entertainment and Netflix before returning to his home state to found Midwest Games.
