KIEL, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A Wisconsin lawmaker is leading the effort to rename the Kiel Post Office in honor of a Wisconsin State Trooper who died in the line of duty.
U.S. Rep. Glenn Grothman, R-6th District is proposing to rename the post office on Fremont Street in Kiel to the “Trooper Trevor J. Casper Post Office Building”.
“Trooper Casper’s life was tragically cut short in 2015 as he became the youngest police officer to be killed in the line of duty in our state’s history,” said Grothman. “Renaming this post office in his honor serves as a lasting tribute to this young man who was unwavering in his commitment to keeping our streets safe.”
Trooper Casper was shot and killed in Fond du Lac on March 24, 2015 while trying to apprehend a bank robbery and murder suspect. He was 21 years old when he died.
Months before his death, Trevor fulfilled his dream by graduating from the State Patrol Academy and being stationed at the State Trooper Base in Fond du Lac.
A native of Kiel, Trevor was a staple in the Kiel community through wrestling, soccer, and coaching youth sports. After graduating from Kiel High School with the class of 2011, Trevor attended Lakeshore Technical College (LTC) and graduated with a degree in Criminal Justice in 2014. He was active in the Color Guard and held the position of President of the LTC student government.
Grothman is joined by Representatives Tom Tiffany (WI-07), Scott Fitzgerald (WI-05), Derrick Van Orden (WI-03), Gwen Moore (WI-04), Bryan Steil (WI-01), Mike Gallagher (WI-08), and Mark Pocan (WI-02).
