GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – An iconic Green Bay site now joins the “National Register of Historic Places.”
The “Tarlton Theatre” on Walnut Street has been conferred the honor by the U-S Department of the Interior.
The occasion was marked Wednesday with the unveiling of a commemorative marker at the site.
The Art Deco building was built around 1925.
Over the years it has seen many changes.
Past names of the site include the “West Pitcher Show” and the “Historic West Theatre.”
One of the owners of the Tarlton Theatre says it’s important to celebrate the plaque.
“What that plaque is going to recognize and symbolize to people is future generations can now come in and enjoy this space and celebrate it’s history but also the innovation that it has for many years to come. The building is going to be here forever now.” Tarl Knight said.
He also noted the theatre has plans to bolster audio and visual capabilities at the venue.
The hope is to make it more of a regional performance space to showcase more projects in the community.
