GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Thursday night at St. John’s Ministries, about 130 people enjoyed a meal of sausage, potatoes, mushrooms, onions, and more.
Green Bay City Council was cooking up a storm at Crisis Café on Thursday afternoon to get their dishes ready for dinner for the guests at St. Johns. Jesse Brunette, Green Bay City Council President, says government should be all about helping people.
“We’re dealing with issues of affordable housing in Green Bay and the growing numbers on homelessness; people in the community are struggling with those issues,” said Brunette. “Their city council members care about them.”
Crisis Café provided their kitchen to the council members. The café is a locally operated non profit dedicated to helping the community’s vulnerable populations. After the cooking, the meals were taken to both St. John’s Ministries Men’s Shelter and Women’s Shelter.
Rob Frazier is the Associate Executive Director at St. John’s Ministries. He said he hopes the councilors learn from their experience.
“Many people don’t get to understand what homelessness is,” said Frazier. “This will be an opportunity for them to see exactly the things that are important for moving our guests forward.”
