A fantastic season for the Marquette Golden Eagles came to a disappointing end as the 7th seeded Michigan State Spartans defeated the second seeded Golden Eagles 69-60 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament’s East regional in Columbus, Ohio Sunday afternoon. Michigan State came out roaring, building a 13 point lead in the first half and taking a five point advantage into the locker room at halftime. Marquette opened the second half with a quick burst to pull in front and it stayed a tight game to the closing minutes. Michigan State was up 56-55 and thanks a a big three point hoop from one time Marquette player Joey Hauser, who transferred to Michigan State, the Spartans finished the game on a 13-5 run to return to the Sweet 16 under Head Coach Tom Izzo. Hauser, a Stevens Point native, finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds while Tyson Walker led Michigan State with 23 as the Spartans improved to 21-12. Marquette was led by Olivier-Maxence Prosper with 16. Kam Jones added 14 while Big East Player of the Year Tyler Kolek struggled with foul trouble and turnovers and managed only 7 points. The Big East regular season and tournament champions of Head Coach Shaka Smart finished one of Marquette’s finest seasons ever at 29-7
