The St. Norbert Green Knights women’s basketball team captured the outright Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference regular season championship in dramatic fashion Wednesday night, beating second place Wisconsin Lutheran on the road 56-54. Trailing 27-18 at halftime, the Knights rallied and led by a bucket heading to the final, frantic minute. After Lutheran tied the game, senior Olivia DeCleene knocked down a pair of free throws for a 54-52 lead. Lutheran answered again with a bucket at the :31 second mark and the Knights held the ball for the final shot. With time running out, DeCleene drove to the right baseline and with a quick fake, got to the hoop for the game winning layup with one second remaining. The former De Pere Redbird finished with a game high 21 points as SNC made it 17-0 in NACC play with one game remaining at Madison Edgewood on Saturday. St. Norbert is 21-3 overall, matching the school record for most wins in a regular season. Head Coach Amanda Leonard-Perry’s club will earn a first round bye in the NACC post-season tournament and have home court advantage in a semifinal matchup next weekend.
