OCONTO, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Construction delays are pushing back the start of the school year in Oconto.
The district posted on its Facebook page That the first day of school will be Sept. 7. An open house at all buildings is set for 2:30-6:30 p.m. Sept. 6, with freshman and new student orientation set for 3 p.m. in the high school auditorium.
“Construction has been coming along nicely, but we have experienced some issues with labor shortages and supply chains. That in itself has pushed our timeline out, reducing the ability for our staff to get into their spaces and adequately prepare classrooms for all students,” superintendent Emily Miller wrote in the Facebook post.
“Once construction is complete, we will need extra time to ensure all spaces are ready for learning and the mindset of the staff is focused on the students. I apologize for this inconvenience and hope this does not negatively impact your family.”
To make up for the missed days at the beginning of the year, school will be in session on Nov. 1. That was originally scheduled to be a professional development day for teachers.
A revised calendar is available on the district’s website.
