The veterans reported Tuesday and the Green Bay Packers 2022 Training Camp is ready to roll with the first practice coming Wednesday morning at 10:30 AM on Ray Nitschke Field.
Aaron Rodgers arrived in a white, muscle shirt, jeans and boots as a dead ringer for Nicolas Cage’s Con Air character Cameron Poe. Wide receiver Sammy Watkins checked in and was promptly placed on the Non-Football Injury list. It’s apparently a tight hamstring for Watkins who has been plagued by injury over the past couple of seasons. The Packers don’t believe it will be along term issue and they hope to get Watkins in uniform soon. He’s the 4th player opening camp on the NFI list and there are another 10 players on the Physically Unable to Perform list. Among them, David Bakhtiari, Elgton Jenkins, Dean Lowry, Robert Tonyan, Mason Crosby and second round draft pick Christian Watson.
General Manager Brian Gutekunst continued tinkering with the roster on the eve of camp, signing three players and releasing three. Brought aboard are center Ty Clary, wide receiver Osirus Mitchell and defensive back Donte Vaughn. C;ary is an undrafted rookie from Arkansas who spent time with Miami this spring. Mitchell is a first year pro from Mississippi State who spent time on the Dallas practice squad last year. He caught 23 balls for 333 yards and three scores for the Birmingham Stallions in the recent USFL season. Vaughn is another first year pro from Notre Dame who spent time last year on the Los Angeles Chargers practice squad. The Packers have released defensive lineman Hauati Putuau, safety Tre Sterling and defensive back Raleigh Texada.
