GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Spring has sprung, and road construction projects across northeast Wisconsin will resume.
“We have projects that are carrying over from last year but we’re anticipating adding another 30 projects that we’re going to work on this year for roughly about 150 million dollars worth of value,” Wisconsin Department of Transportation Project Development Manager Tim Rank said.
Rank tells FOX 11 projects will stretch across northeast Wisconsin, from Fond du Lac, to Sheboygan, to Marinette.
“Some of the ones to highlight, we have a large resurfacing job in Brown and Manitowoc Counties on I-43, we have a project out just west of here on 29, 29 and VV interchange is being completed this fall. We have projects down in the Hortonville, Greenville area, Highway 15’s reconstruction is being started, I should say is ongoing through the next couple years.”
The City of Green Bay will also begin a few reconstruction projects.
Public Works Director Steve Grenier tells FOX 11 the annual asphalt resurfacing project will begin soon.
“Which happens primarily in residential areas. So we’ve got about 15 to 20 streets that we’re going to be working on this year.”
Another notable project is the stormwater facility at Seymour Park.
“Instead of just being a boring, old stormwater pond, it’s actually going to be architectural and add some boardwalk type bridges and overlooks and things like that so it’ll help integrate the park aspect into the neighborhood.”
Grenier says the pond is meant to help deal with some of the flooding along Ashland Avenue, as well as other neighboring streets.
“Those streets are also adversely impacted by stormwater. So when we do the reconstruct on those streets, that’ll provide an opportunity for that water to get off, get treated prior to discharge.”
He expects that stormwater facility project to be built this year.
Next week is also Work Zone Awareness Week.
WisDOT wants to remind drivers to be safe and aware of work zones as they approach them.
