WASHINGTON, WI (WRN) – A group of Littoral Combat Ships built in Marinette could already be getting decommissioned.
The US Navy is reportedly looking to shelve nine of those vessels, including the USS Milwaukee, as part of a larger plan to cut back on costs over the next five years.
The L C S fleet never quite performed the way the Navy wanted and many of the ships still haven’t found a use in the fleet.
The Department of Defense is already looking to the future with a new class of missile frigates that could replace the L C S fleet.
Those are scheduled to be built at Fincantieri Marinette Marine Shipyard here in Wisconsin as well.
