ASHWAUBENON, WI (WTAQ) — A giant cow wearing a cheesehead waved the first cars through, inviting Green Bayers to “Eat Mor Chikin” at the opening of Brown County’s first Chick-Fil-A restaurant on Thursday morning.
Chicken seekers like St. Norbert College Students Marissa and Jenalee, the first in line, lined up around 6:00 am. The restaurant didn’t open until 8:00.
“When we heard there was one coming, we were dead set on trying to be the first ones, and here we are,” said Marissa.
“We left campus at 5:30, and then went to go get coffee. We got here around 6,” Jenalee added.
It’s a day that was circled on the calenders of Mary and Paul, two longtime Green Bay residents who moved to the area from the Quad Cities in Iowa, where they frequented Chick-Fil-A.
“17 years we’ve lived here, and we’ve been waiting for this,” laughed Mary. “Their biscuits are incredible.”
Ashwaubenon authorities are working to minimize any traffic disruption. The only way to get in line for the drive thru will be heading northbound on Oneida Street and make a right turn into the Bay Park Square parking lot via the Anderson Drive entrance. They say they’ll do that as long as it’s needed.
