GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Food shortages linked to supply chain issues caused by the COVID-19 pandemic are impacting school lunches in Green Bay.
Green Bay Superintendent Stephen Murley says they’re doing what they can to keep students fed.
“We have some very specific menu requirements that come to us, in terms of content that we use to build those menus,” Murley told Fox 11’s Good Day Wisconsin. “When those things are in short supply that creates havoc with our menu building system.”
Murley says menu items that can’t be found will be substituted.
“US Department of Agriculture is the one that regulates our food service program,” explained Murley. “That comes to the Department of Public Instruction at the state level, and they’ve they’ve been very helpful and cooperative in helping us find alternatives.”
Murley assured parents that students will be fed.
Similar problems were reported last week in the Appleton School District.
