Green Bay Austin Straubel International Airport unveiled its new electric vehicle charging station in its short-term parking lot Wednesday.
The system was designed and installed by EnTech Solutions. It’s powered by solar arrays with the support from the electric grid if needed.
The charger can generate up to 21,630 kilowatt hours of solar energy annually, which is enough to provide around 300 electric vehicles charges per year.
“As air travel continues to increase for personal and business needs, we make it a point to serve the changing needs of travelers,” said Airport Director Marty Piette, A.A.E. “One of those area is supporting the charging needs of EV owners. Placing a solar-powered EV charger in the short-term parking area at the airport gives passengers a quick and easy option to charge their vehicles while they’re dropping off or picking up. Powering the chargers with clean energy also supports our environmental efforts, while being cost-effective.”
According to EnTech, electric vehicle sales are expected to reach nearly 30% of new vehicle sales by 2030.
