GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A man who attacked a firefighter trying to get him out of the middle of an intersection was sentenced Friday to a year in prison.
Jamie Sinclair, 28, was also convicted of bail jumping and disorderly conduct counts for unrelated offenses. He was sentenced to an additional year in prison on those counts by Judge Tammy Jo Hock.
In court Friday, Sinclair apologized for his actions.
According to the criminal complaint, Fire Lt. Cody Johnson came across Sinclair at the intersection of Broadway and Dousman on Sept. 25, 2019, where Johnson tried to coerce Sinclair out of the lanes of traffic. Sinclair punched Johnson in the head with closed fists before Johnson and good Samaritans were able to tackle Sinclair.
A police officer on the scene tried to handcuff Sinclair, but he resisted and was yelling he wanted to go back to Canada. He was cuffed. But officers then used pepper spray to get him into a squad car, the complaint states.
Defense attorney Brian Van Ells noted Sinclair was not on his medication at the time of the incident. Also, as Sinclair is a Canadian resident and wants to return there.
