GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — The head of Bellin Health is applauding the state of Wisconsin’s decision to offer $100 in exchange for getting a COVID-19 vaccine.
CEO Chris Woleske says similar programs have increased vaccination rates elsewhere.
“It has proven to be a somewhat effective strategy in other states,” said Woleske. “So it’s worth trying given that the vast majority of those in the hospital and those who will end up in the hospital are unvaccinated.”
Not only has it been effective elsewhere, incentives have worked even in the local area.
“About a week ago, JBS sponsored a vaccination clinic that vaccinated 150 people at a local farmers market,” Woleske told WTAQ. “They offered ribeyes and a drawing for a year’s worth of meat.”
She adds that she’d like to see the program combine with a larger scale education effort. Vaccine numbers have ticked up in Wisconsin in recent weeks, with over 55,000 more people vaccinated last week in the state.
