DE PERE, WI (WTAQ) — One thing that certainly didn’t suffer through the pandemic was America’s sweet tooth.
June is National Candy Month.
At Seroogy’s Chocolate in De Pere, Marketing Director Marjorie Hitchcock says all is well. With the COVID-19 pandemic waning, however, orders are changing.
“People are having birthday parties, and graduation parties, weddings, family get togethers, and they get hungry for chocolate” Hitchcock told WTAQ. “People are doing what they did pre-2020. I think it’s going to be a good year.”
The confectionary industry impacts the Wisconsin economy to the tune of $2 billion annually. Like everywhere else, it needs workers.
“We are looking for employees,” Hitchcock said Thursday. “We are probably going to be hiring for the holiday season earlier than usual just because we’re going to need people.”
The National Confectioners Association says 75% of Americans feel that a little sugar goes a long way in boosting spirits.
The industry employs 5,800 people in the state.
