GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — We’re in a deep cold snap, and it isn’t ending soon.
You can expect subzero temperatures to be the norm over the next week and a half.
“The cold arctic air mass that settled over Canada and the northern United States has really gotten stuck over our area,” said National Weather Service Meteorologist Scott Berschback. “We’re not really expecting a warm up for at least the next 10 days.”
Before the Pacific winds blow the arctic air back from whence it came, another shot of cold air is going to move in this weekend.
“We are watching another shot of even colder air that is forecast to move into the area either next weekend or very early next week,” said Berschback. “That will probably stay in the area through at least next Tuesday.”
Meanwhile, the cold snap is already breaking records. In Appleton on Sunday, they set a record low maximum temperature: -1. Records were threatened in Green Bay and elsewhere in Northeast Wisconsin.
Berschback says when all is said and done, this is likely to be one of the longer cold snaps in Wisconsin’s recorded history.
