GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Kathryn Friday, who was scheduled to be sentenced Monday for lying to a John Doe hearing about a murder investigation, recently died, a prosecutor said Monday.
Friday, 68, was dating James Prokopovitz when his wife, Victoria, disappeared in 2013. He was charged with her murder in May 2019, even though Victoria’s body has never been found. He is scheduled to stand trial Feb. 12.
During the investigation, a secret John Doe hearing was held. Friday lied about the case during her testimony on May 8, 2019. Earlier this year, she pleaded no contest to conspiracy to commit perjury, perjury, and obstruction.
When the case was called Monday, Brown County Deputy District Attorney Wendy Lemkuil said Friday had died, but did not offer specifics on when or details of the death.
Lemkuil moved to dismiss the charges, which was granted by Judge Tammy Jo Hock.
Friday could have been sentenced to up to 12 years in the prison system.
James Prokopovitz was the last person to see his wife on April 25, 2013. Investigators say Victoria was reported missing, but her purse, cell phone and ID were all at her home in Pittsfield.
