GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Plans to relocate coal piles in downtown Green Bay is garnering support in the state Senate.
Senate President Roger Roth voiced his support for a bill to redevelop Green Bay’s riverfront Tuesday.
The bill would help with the first step in relocating the C. Reiss coal facility from the west bank of the Fox River, just south of Mason Street, to the closed WPS Pulliam Power Plant at the mouth of the Fox River. It would provide $1.2 million for geotechnical work, planning and soil evaluation at the proposed relocation site.
“It’s clear that this $200 million economic development, port expansion and coal pile relocation is a vital project for Green Bay and Northeast Wisconsin,” Roth said. “If Brown County, Green Bay and WPS can come to an agreement, I will work with my colleagues to move their legislation forward as quickly as possible,” Roth wrote in a statement.
The bill passed the full Assembly last year. It’s not known when the full Senate will take up the bill.
