GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Northeast Wisconsin Technical College has hired on a new career coach in hopes of improving access to college for minority students.
Jessica Franco-Morales has started at the school as a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Career Coach.
“This new role definitely puts an intentional focus on what we can do to provide a more diverse and equitable lens in both our policies and our practices,” Franco-Morales told WTAQ on Tuesday.
She’ll be reaching out one-on-one with high school students–remotely, of course–at a number of area schools. Her efforts will aim to help minority students, many of whom are the first in their family to attend college, navigate college life.
“The college going process is often a difficult one,” Franco-Morales said. “Especially if you’re a first generation college student whose parents maybe didn’t go through that experience themselves.”
That won’t be her only job. The first thing Franco-Morales says she’ll be doing is working to translate college marketing materials into multiple other languages.
Franco-Morales is a graduate of Green Bay Preble High School. Franco-Morales holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Wisconsin Madison and a master’s degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis also from the University of Wisconsin Madison.
