GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – The Packers 2020 season home opener, under the shadow of the COVID 19 pandemic and, with no fans allowed in Lambeau Field, unlike anything we’ve ever seen.
But that didn’t stop some fans of the Green & Gold from doing the best they could to create a fun game day experience.
All dressed up in their Packer gear, and no place to go….at least as far as into Lambeau Field. But that didn’t stop Josha and his friends from showing in a nearby parking lot to tailgate.
“We’ve got a TV set up, you know, just having our fun.”
Anyone worried about crowds and spreading the virus ? Not Brett…
“One of things we try to do our best is keep our close knit friends together in a small group and kind of keep to ourselves.”
The national anthem controversy and the NFL’s reaction has been a turnoff for some people. Caleb is from a military family and says expression is part of living in a free country.
“My father is a 20 year vet. And really that’s why he served….so that citizens of America have that right to stand up for what we believe in.”
Some of the popular spots for tailgaters to set up shop included the parking lot at Badger State Brewing Co. And Green Bay VFW Post 2037…..where they were still taking donations to support local veterans.
While the lots weren’t packed, many fans expect the crowds to grow as the season goes on and if the Packers 2020 season is successful.
