Adm. Brett Giroir
GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — A leading member of the White House Coronavirus Task Force says indoor bars should be avoided.
Assistant Secretary for Health Admiral Brett Giroir says Coronavirus spreads easily in closely packed indoor spaces.
“Since I have a son-in-law from Wisconsin, I know the culture pretty well…you’ve got to watch the indoor bars, because indoor bars are a big source of the spread,” Giroir said on WTAQ’s ‘The Morning News with Matt and Earl’. “That’s what we’ve seen in the gulf states. You’ve got to reduce the indoor restaurant capacity.”
“Indoor places are really pretty tight,” said Giroir. “Now, if you have outdoor bars, outdoor restaurants, that’s fine, but face mask wearing in public is really very important.”
Giroir did say he doesn’t expect and doesn’t recommend another lockdown period.
“What we’re saying now, based on all the information we know, is that you really don’t have to close down, like a lockdown, like we did before, to achieve about the same results,” Giroir said.
The US has seen an increase in cases, but Giroir says it’s likely about the same case growth as it was in April, made clearer through better testing.
