Chance of showers, storms with hail and high winds Thursday

GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - More heavy thunderstorms are predicted for Wisconsin Thursday afternoon -- and some could be severe Thursday evening, especially in the western half of the state.

The National Weather Service did not issue any storm watches or warnings as of mid-morning. But it did say that large hail and damage winds are possible, along with a threat of tornadoes in western and central areas.

A very warm day is expected in the Green Bay area with temperatures topping out in the mid-70s and a chance of showers and thunderstorms.

Most of the showers and thunderstorms will hold off until the evening and overnight hours and some of the storms may be strong or severe with large hail and high winds along with heavy rain.

Winds will pick up out of the south and southeast Thursday at 10 to 20 miles per hour.

For now, southern Wisconsin is enjoying what could be its best day of the year, with 10 a.m. temperatures generally in the 70's under partly sunny skies. Janesville had a summer-like 77, while folks in Superior were still grabbing for their winter coats amid a 38 degree reading.

Madison is expecting 80 degrees Thursday afternoon, before the storms come in advance of a low pressure system that's heading our way. It's due in northwest Iowa by Thursday evening.

Another round of hail went through north central Wisconsin overnight. Pea to dime-sized hail fell at River Falls, Ellsworth, Gilman in Taylor County, and Summit Lake in Langlade County.

A dry day is likely Friday, but there's still a slight chance of rain in the forecast all the way through Monday.
