Badgers roll into Elite 8

Wisconsin Badgers basketball
Wisconsin Badgers basketball

Wisconsin put on a clinic in dominating Baylor 69-52 in the NCAA West Regional Semifinal Thursday night at the Pond in Anaheim.    The second seeded Badgers allowed the first points of the game to the Bears but wouldn't trail the rest of the way.  Facing the vaunted Baylor 1-3-1 zone, Wisconsin moved the ball smartly to 7 foot junior center Frank Kaminsky in the lane and he either took it to the basket or dished for open shots.  Kaminsky finished with 19 points on the offensive end and blocked a career high six shots on defense.  Ben Brust scored 14 and Nigel Hayes added 10 off the bench.  Wisconsin steadily pulled away against a cold shooting Baylor offense to lead by 29-16 at the half.  It was the lowest output for the Bears all season.   The lead swelled to over 20 and if not for shaky free throw shooting (11 of 20), the final margin would have been even greater.   Wisconsin (29-7) reaches the Elite 8 for only the 4th time in school history, second under coach Bo Ryan who last got this far in 2005.  Standing in the way of the Badgers' first trip to the final four since Dick Bennett's 2000 squad is top seeded Arizona, which defeated San Diego State 70-64.   The regional final is Saturday night.
