GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) -- Some of the best runners in the Boston Marathon are lacing up for this weekend’s Bellin Run in Green Bay.
Following last year’s Boston Marathon bombing, runner Meb Keflezsghi helped “reclaim” the revered American sporting event in April by becoming the first American man to win the revered race in 31 years. Now, runners from across Wisconsin can run with the new American sports hero in Green Bay’s Bellin Run this Saturday, and according to race director Randy Van Stratton, that’s generating a lot of buzz! According to Van Stratton, “It basically lit the social media on fire for us.”
Keflezghi along with 13 other elite runners will be signing autographs at the Runners Expo Friday night, prior to the actual race on Saturday morning.
Some other past Boston winners in attendance at this year’s race include Bill Rodgers and Joan Benoit-Samuelson, as well as Boston Marathon race director Dave McGilvrey who will help “stage” Saturday’s race which is expected to attract around 20,000 runners.
You can still register for that 10K race at the Runner’s Expo on Friday afternoon and evening, or online at http://www.BellinRun.com.
