GREENVILLE, WI (WTAQ) - An ad hoc committee in Outagamie County has recommended changing the name of Outagamie County Regional Airport to Appleton Airport.
FOX 11 reports that the committee, who's been studying the issue for several months, finds that most air travelers already refer to the airport as the Appleton Airport anyway.
The report also cites difficulties with marketing the current name as another reason for the change.
According to committee members, Appleton Airport is a recognizable location for travelers and blends in better with current branding efforts in the region. The report also says having the words “County” and “Regional” in the current airport name imply low quality in the minds of travelers.
The price tag for making the change would be between $150,000 and $200,000. It would be paid for by the airport without the use of tax dollars.
Other considerations made by the committee included changing it to the Fox Cities, Fox Valley or Fox River Airport.
Outagamie County Board member and chair of the committee Tanya Rabec says the change would be a "huge economic driver" for the region.
