Eric Paslay Says Fun Songs Like "Friday Night" Are Deceptively Simple

Upon first listen, Eric Paslay 's fun, uptempo hit, "Friday Night," may seem like a mindless ditty, but it actually takes quite a bit of skill to write a song that gets people on their feet. Like most new songwriters, Eric tended to make up a lot of slow ballads when he was younger. Faster songs like "Friday Night" only started coming out right for Eric once he got a little experience under his belt.

He tells ABC News Radio, "I think it's harder because a fun song has more lyrics. It's more of a melody. Usually it's a catchy thing. When you think of slow songs, there's less lyric. There's more of a long note on every word."

Eric has obviously mastered the art of writing fun country hits. He had a hand in writing Jake Owen 's "Barefoot Blue Jean Night" as well as "Friday Night." Look for Eric's self-titled debut album to hit stores February 4.
