Amery police chief busted for OWI

AMERY, Wis. (WXCE) -- The police chief for the city of Amery has been arrested for drunk driving.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Department arrested 55-year-old Tom Marson just after midnight on Sunday, February 16th.

According to the criminal complaint, the Polk County Sheriff’s Department was called to the scene of a vehicle that slid into the ditch at State Highway 46 and County Road A, south of Amery, at 11:43 p.m. Saturday, February 15th. Authorities found that the vehicle was register to Tom Marson, the Amery Police Chief.

A deputy then went to Marson’s home in Amery. Marson told the deputy he slid into the ditch because of slippery roads. The deputy reported that Marson smelled of alcohol, and was not able to do two field sobriety tests. A preliminary breath test reportedly showed Marson's blood alcohol level was at .156 percent.

The City of Amery had a personnel meeting Monday night to discuss the matter. Amery Mayor Michael Karuschak would only confirm the police chief’s issue is on the agenda but would not make any further comments.
