92,000 BadgerCare participants losing coverage

MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - If they don't know already, about 92,000 Badger-Care recipients will soon get letters saying their coverage is about to end -- and they'll have to turn to Obama-care.

The letters tell adults they'll be dropped from the Medicaid-funded Badger-Care if they make over 100-percent of the federal poverty level, as well as families with children over 300-percent of the poverty line.

Instead, they'll be told to get coverage though the health insurance purchasing exchanges.

They can start enrolling October first, and they must sign up for something by December 15th.

Meanwhile, U.S. Senate Democrat Tammy Baldwin fired off a letter to the Republican Walker, saying he must do more to communicate with those losing their Badger-Care.

Unlike Walker, Baldwin is a strong supporter of the new Affordable Care Act.  She urges Walker's people to place personalized letters and phone calls to those affected, and work with other groups to make sure those affected stay covered.

Under the new state budget, Walker has rejected additional Medicaid funds to make sure those at 138-percent of the poverty level stay covered under current health programs like BadgerCare.

He has said Wisconsin taxpayers would be stuck with a huge bill if-and-when the federal money ends -- and those who can support themselves should do so.
