Carrie Underwood heads out to the Emmy Awards this Sunday night to sing songs from 1963 and 1964. The performance is part of a tribute to television's role in covering major events from that time period, including assassination of President Kennedy to the Beatles' debut on The Ed Sullivan Show .

Carrie says, "It's all about TV, music, changing perceptions and defining an era, basically. So, that was a really big, big changing time in our culture."

Getting the call to perform on the Emmy Awards was very flattering for Carrie. She's actually happy to just show up and sing on the show as opposed to putting a big production number together.

"I'm gonna be there, and I'm gonna be singing, but it's not about me at all, and that's awesome," Carrie says with a laugh. "I'm perfectly happy with that."

She adds, "Hopefully it will be a very beautiful tribute to an important time. I'm honored to provide the soundtrack for that."

The 65th Annual Emmy Awards broadcast live on CBS Sunday night at 8 ET/5 PT.
