GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - A new report issued Monday found a “perfect storm” of factors that could have led to the major water pipe break in late December on Green Bay’s eastside.

Around eight million gallons of water spewed from beneath East Mason near Main Street.

A draft report says some factors included corrosive soil, pipe wiring, porous mortar and even nearby gas and voltage lines.

Green Bay Water Utility says those factors led them to identify nearly 20 other pipe sections, some as old as 1955, to be potential problems.

The water utility will be addressing those issues over the coming years with a plan to repair two or three sections of pipe every year.

Water utility general manager Nancy Quirk says not all the costs are in, but says those capital projects could be up to $500,000 a year.

The December 29th break cost the city around $172,000.
