North Fond du Lac neighborhood won't hear train whistles

NORTH FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ) - Train whistles will go silent in a North Fond du Lac neighborhood after village leaders vote to permanently close a section of roadway.

Village Administrator Chuck Hornung tells FOX 11 the closing of a section of Lakeshore Drive in the village was the last resort to stop the Canadian National Railroad trains from blowing their horns an estimated 150 times a day in the area.

Hornung said crews installed temporary barriers this morning and are working on permanent concrete barriers and signage as well.

He said he plans to meet with officials from Canadian National Railroad today to present a resolution to close Lakeshore Drive.
