UPDATE: Green Bay police arrest 2 in marble shooting incident

GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - Green Bay police say two men have been arrested for allegedly shooting marbles at vehicles driving on I-43 Sunday.

The investigation began when several vehicles were struck around 1:30 p.m.

On Monday night two suspects, ages 20 and 19, were arrested.

During a search in a  wooded area on the west side of the highway between Mason Street and Manitowoc Road, officers say they found a hole in a fence along with an empty bag that appeared to hold marbles, along with a bag from a local store.

Police went to the store and interviewed the clerk, who gave them a description of the men who bought the marbles.

A public alert led to more tips from the public, including one that provided the names of the suspects. The tipster told police that the two men typically went to the area with a slingshot to shoot at squirrels and birds.

Police tracked down the 20-year-old man, who lives in the area, and interviewed him. In searching his home, officers found a slingshot and marbles.

The 19-year-old was identified as a friend of the 20-year-old. When police found him leaving a home on the city’s west side, they say he tried to conceal a bag of marbles by throwing it.

Based on what the two told police, investigators believe they became bored with shooting at birds and squirrels and began to shoot at vehicles. They devised a game to see who could be the first to hit 15 vehicles.

Anyone who believes he or she may be a victim is asked to call Green Bay police at (920) 448-3200 and reference case no. 13-214217.
