Oshkosh man jailed after slamming vehicle into Appleton business

APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) - Appleton police arrest a man after he allegedly rammed his vehicle into a building Wednesday night.

Police say they were called to a business in the 2300 block of West College Ave. around 8:30 p.m. for a report of an SUV crashing into the building.

As officers responded, reports of an SUV with extensive front-end damage came in from Winnebago County sheriff's deputies. They stopped the vehicle driving south on Highway 41 in Neenah soon after.

The driver, 55-year-old Steven L. Jones of Oshkosh, was jailed on a probation violation. Jones is also facing charges of damage to property and burglary. He was also ticketed for second-offense OWI and operation after revocation.

Jones has not yet been criminally charged in this case.

Officers say the damage to the building was consistent with a vehicle being used to try to break in to it. Firefighters were called in to check for structural issues. The damage is estimated to be at least $20,000.

One person was in the building at the time of the crash. He was not hurt.
