Brown County Republicans remove four from leadership after internal strife

GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - An internal power struggle came to a heated end for the Republican Party of Brown County after they voted out four of five Executive Board members.

The decision came after a nearly five-hour closed door meeting Tuesday night.

Long-term serving members of the Executive Board were removed after they tried to improperly replace Chairman Mark Becker.

They had concerns with expenditures and his leadership that left the party without delegate representation at the Eighth District Caucus and the state party convention for the first time ever.

Even the state party chimed in saying the board took improper actions and that Becker was the elected leader.

Some party members referred to the matter as the old versus the new, but Becker refuted that.

“The membership spoke, we are a membership driven grassroots organization and we affirmed that” Becker said.

Becker wouldn’t say what the rationale was for the removal of the four board members that included the Vice-Chair, Secretary and two members at large.  The only survivor was Bev Van Deurzen, but she will have to write a letter of apology.

More than 60 members of the party took part in last night’s meeting that had an armed Brown County Sheriff Deputy present.
