NEW HOLSTEIN, WI (WTAQ) - Around 2,000 mink were released from their cages in Calumet County Saturday morning.
Deputies responded to calls from motorists near the Town of New Holstein.
Apparently someone let the mink loose at a farm on Foundry Road. The owners of Bonlander Fur say they recovered about 75 percent of the mink, and continue to search for the others.
The Calumet County Sheriff's Department and the FBI are investigating the incident.
Bonlander Fur is listed on several websites that oppose the fur industry. Most of the Bonlander's mink are sent to Toronto for hats, coats and jackets.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Calumet County Sheriff's Department at (920) 849-2335, or Calumet County Crime Stoppers at (877) 765-8327.
