GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - Five months ago, the Green Bay Police Department began accepting crime reports online.
So far, 184 reports have been started...but just 86 have been completed. That's a problem for officers looking to help out those people who started filling out those crime reports.
"There could be a variety of reasons why people aren't finishing the reports," says Green Bay Police Lt. Kevin Warych. "But what we've seen so far is that when they get to the description of the event, that is when they seem to lose interest or do not complete the report."
Warych says officers have no way of contacting people or learning of possible crimes in an incomplete report.
"We really encourage them to put in there whatever they want," says Warych. "We developed the system to be user-friendly and we really encourage people to use it and help people become educated on it so that this is another way people can contact the police department."
Police want the public to know that any information given online is no different than if an officer responds to a phone call.
