MARINETTE, WI (WTAQ) - The man charged with the murder of a Peshtigo woman has been convicted.

According to online court records, Brent Kaempf pled no contest to one count of first-degree intentional homicide in the stabbing death of Trish Waschbisch.

Sentencing for Kaempf is set for January 10. It carries an automatic sentence of life in prison, with Judge David Miron having the option to set an initial parole eligibility date.

Kaempf on Monday was originally in court to hear several motions ahead of his January 28 trial.

Waschbisch was found stabbed to death in the Peshtigo home she shared with Kaempf. She was the interim director at Rainbow House, a domestic violence shelter in Marinette.

According to court records, Kaempf and Waschbisch started a relationship in 2005 - and also lived together for several years.

In 2010, Kaempf was charged with misdemeanor battery and disorderly conduct, after allegedly hitting Waschbisch in the face.

Shortly before the homicide, Washbisch told friends she was leaving Kaempf.
