UNDATED (WRN-WSAU) Raw milk activists nationwide descend upon Central Wisconsin.
Self described food rights activists from around the U-S will be rallying all week across from the Sauk County Courthouse to support dairy farmer Vernon Hershberger who is on trial.Hershberger is charged with distributing milk and operating a retail food establishment and dairy plant without proper licenses. He's also charged with violating a hold order from the state after it conducted a raw milk raid.
Hundreds of supporters are expected to turn out.
Those who advocate for the right to sell raw milk say it's a matter of personal choice while others cite health concerns that unpasteurized milk will lead to food borne illness. For the most part, Wisconsin has prohibitions on the sale of unpasteurized milk to the public because of concerns its consumption will lead to illness.
