MADISON, Wis. (WSAU) - Gogebic Taconite is changing their application for their exploration license.
Company officials say in the new application that they will only be making eight exploratory bore holes instead of the thirteen previously indicated. According to the company, they removed five of those boreholes in order to properly address stormwater issues in accordance with regulations from the state. DNR staff asked about those drill holes in an visit to inspect the proposed site as well as needed access roads to the drill areas.
The DNR now has 10 business days to review and make a decision in the case. Gogebic can reapply for more licenses in the future if they wish to keep exploring.
