GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - As part of National Peace Officers' Memorial Day Wednesday, the Green Bay Police Department is holding a silent watch at the Community Tribute to Law Enforcement Memorial.

That's in front of the department's headquarters at 307 S. Adams Street in downtown Green Bay.

Officers will stand watch in silence in front of the memorial from sunrise to sunset to honor those killed in the line of duty, those who serve, and those who are serving.

"What we are representing here is not only the profession, the officers that serve us still, the officers that have served us in the past, and unfortunately those that gave the ultimate sacrifice of being killed in the line of duty," Green Bay Assistant Police Chief Lisa Sterr says.

In Fond du Lac, the police department will honor the memory of three of its own officers who gave their lives in the line of duty, including Officer Craig Birkholz who was shot and killed in the line of duty in March 2011.

A memorial ceremony will take place at 12:30 p.m. at the Hamilton Park Public Safety Memorial Site on Sophia Street. The public is invited to attend.

United States and Wisconsin flags will be flown at half-staff Wednesday in honor of law enforcement who have been killed in the line of duty.
