SUPERIOR, WI (WTAQ) - A former postal carrier from Superior will spend two years on federal probation, for stealing rebate checks and scratch-off tickets that were supposed to be delivered in Duluth.
49-year-old Giang Nguyen was also ordered to pay over $1,000 in restitution, and perform 100 hours of community service. That’s after he struck a plea deal that convicted him of one count of mail theft by a postal worker.
Nguyen admitted stealing Menards rebate checks and Big Game money cards that were supposed to go to 45 homes along his rural route. He stole 77 pieces of mail in all, valued at $1,500.
The thefts occurred between March of 2010 and January of 2011.
Nguyen’s attorney argued for leniency, saying the defendant was in debt and was sending money to Vietnam for his mother.
