CABLE, WI (WTAQ) - Even though the Cable Area Chamber of Commerce is still holding events for the opening of the fishing season, Governor Scott Walker won’t be there.
More than a foot of snow is on the ground in Bayfield County.
Walker says he still wants to fish on Lake Namekagon, but will reschedule his visit until safer conditions exist.
The Governor’s Fishing Opener was first started 48 years ago.
There are still up to 20 inches of ice on some northern Wisconsin lakes. Saturday is the official opening day for the season.
