MILWAUKEE (WTAQ) - A woman who was molested by a fired Milwaukee police officer has filed a civil suit.
The action was filed in federal court against officer Ladmarald Cates, the Police Department, Chief Ed Flynn, and the city of Milwaukee.
Cates was found guilty of raping the woman, soon after she called 911 in 2010 because her house was being vandalized. She was 19 at the time.
Cates had stopped the woman twice before for traffic violations, and he tried to claim that the sex was consensual. He was sentenced to 24 years in prison.
The victim’s civil suit accused Cates of violating her civil rights and causing emotional distress – and she said the police department and the city violated her rights by not disciplining Cates for previous violations.
Police said they could not comment on the new lawsuit.
