Notre Dame will play for gold

Notre Dame
Notre Dame

Green Bay Notre Dame turned a 10 point lead after one quarter into a 27 point blowout by intermission in rolling over Milton 61-35 to advance to the WIAA Division 2 championship game.  The Tritons dominated the Red Hawks at every turn, using ball pressure defense full court to force 15 turnovers and in the half court, hold Milton to 26 percent shooting from the floor.  Offensively, Notre Dame patiently wore down Milton for good looks and they finished, hitting 60% of their shots and 50% from three point range.  The 19-2 second quarter all but settled the contest.   Junior Allie LeClaire led the balanced attack with 14 points although she threw a scare into coach Sara Rhode by turning her ankle just before halftime.  LeClaire said she was able to walk it off and return in the second half. Eliza Campbell scored 13, Brianna Byrne 12 and Sabrina Rapisarda added 10.   Notre Dame's biggest lead reached 39 points before reserves finished the game.  Milton finishes 19-8 while the Tritons improved to 21-6, having won 16 of their last 18 games.   This will be the third title game appearance for Notre Dame, who defeated Slinger for the 2001 Division 2 championship.  Four years later they were beaten by Jefferson.  The Division 2 championship tips off at 6:35 PM Saturday night.
